The use of techniques for manipulating scientific data by large industries has been widely demonstrated in the case of tobacco. But intentionally creating controversy on issues that are in fact widely accepted within the scientific community is not limited only to tobacco industry. Climate change, pesticides and endocrine disrupters are a few such examples.
The consequences that these actions have are very serious because they delay the adoption of strong political measures necessary to deal with these health and environmental threats.
To learn more about these human health and environmental issues and what are the concrete solutions we need to develop to counteract these strategies of doubt used by the industry, we invite you to attend the screening of the film "Merchants of Doubt" By Robert Kenner inspired by the book of the same name by Naomi Oreskes.
The screening will be followed by a speech by Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, Professor Emeritus of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Liège, Bruno Schiffers, Agricultural Engineer and Head of the Laboratoire de Phytopharmacie of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech of ULg and Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, Professor of climatology and environmental sciences at the UCL, a member of TECLIM and vice-president of the IPCC from 2008 to 2015.
